5 Ineos riders who can step up following Tom Pidcock's departure
The British team have lost their brightest star but incredible talent remains
Wednesday’s breaking news that Tom Pidcock and Ineos Grenadiers agreed to part ways may not have been a huge surprise given the acrimonious season the two parties endured but it still sent shockwaves through the team and the cycling landscape.
Pidcock was the best home-grown rider on the team, a double Olympic champion, a proven Classics winner and a potential Grand Tour contender for the future. His departure from Ineos Grenadiers leaves a huge void within the British WorldTour team, and the fact that Ineos were already struggling for wins this season casts even more questions over how 2025 will unfold.
That said, despite Pidcock’s departure, the team is still brimming with talent but it’s now up to several of the younger riders and remaining leaders to step up and deliver.
Pidcock may have only won once on the road in 2024 but he still made an impression at every race he started and was a talismanic figure capable of competing with the best in the world. Without a future Grand Tour contender, a proven Classics winner from the last few years, or a pure sprinter, the pressure truly is on Ineos Grenadiers, and we’ve picked five riders who could step up in 2025 and help the team out of their transitional period.
