A major development on the transfer market this morning, with news breaking that Alberto Bettiol is about to make a mid-season move from EF Education-EasyPost to Astana Qazaqstan Team.

Details are scarce, but the ever-excellent Ciro Scognamiglio from Gazzetta first broke the story Thursday morning.

We have since spoken to the rider’s representative, Giuseppe Acquadro, who has confirmed that the deal should be completed Thursday and that Bettiol is looking at a three-year and a half-year deal starting from August 15. This is the date at which point mid-season transfers can be applied.

Bettiol, 30, has been with EF Education-EasyPost since the start of the 2019 season and has won the Tour of Flanders, stages in the Giro d’Italia and the Tour Down Under, and Milan-Torino. He is also the current national Italian road champion.
