According to his agent, Caleb Ewan’s mid-contract move to Astana will not happen, despite negotiations in September.

The sprinter has a contract in place at Jayco-AlUla for 2025 but had drawn interest from the Kazakh team as they looked to save their WorldTour status for the 2026 season.

Although the deal is currently ‘off’ the story is more complex than that.

We understand that Jayco AlUla were willing to allow the Australian to leave and that they’re still in a position to let the rider depart for another team. At the same time, we’ve learned that there are still members of the Astana set-up who want the deal to take place and are pushing for a resolution.

We’ll start at the beginning.
