Cat Ferguson: Binda podium was a shock but I have no pressure for Milan-San Remo
Exclusive interview with the British world champ ahead of Saturday's Classic
Junior world champion Cat Ferguson (Movistar) had an almost flawless start to her 2025 road season, securing third place at the Trofeo Alfredo Binda - Comune di Cittiglio last weekend.
The Italian race marked the 18-year-old's first WWT outing, and she approaches Saturday’s all-important and historic return of Milan-San Remo as a rider to watch.
However, the first-year pro certainly isn’t feeling any pressure at this stage, even after her superb result at Binda.
“First of all, I’m feeling super excited to be here,” she told us during a phone call earlier this afternoon.
“I won’t call it the first edition, but it’s the return of Milan-San Remo for women. Being able to do this and being given this opportunity is really special. However, tomorrow goes, I’ll look back at this race and really appreciate it as part of history in women’s cycling. I feel lucky to be here and to put a number on in Milan-San Remo at only 18 years old; I feel like I have no pressure. I don’t know what the team plan is yet, but whatever job I get given, whether it’s to position the team into the climbs or whatever I do, I know that I’ll try and do the best I can,” Ferguson added.
The neo-pro also disclosed that she had contracted a mild illness overnight after riding recon over the last portion of the race route on Thursday. She is hoping to make a complete recovery in the next 24 hours.
