Former cyclo-cross world champion Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado will make her road season debut at Amstel Gold this weekend, while we can also reveal that the Dutch star will compete throughout the Ardennes and take on the Vuelta España Femenina for the first time in her career in May.

We caught up with the 26-year-old as she travelled to Maastricht for Sunday’s Spring Classic, and the Fenix-Deceuninck rider talked about her race calendar, objectives for the road, and her contract situation beyond 2025.

“I do all of the Ardennes, so Amstel Gold Race, La Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Then I go to the Vuelta and do the whole Spanish block. Then it’s home for a bit before doing the Tour de Suisse,” Alvarado told us.

The Dutch rider hasn’t raced since hanging up her cyclo-cross bike following the World Championships in February, but she’s excited to begin her 2025 road adventure this weekend.

Her personal targets are modest for now, as she aims to support fellow cyclo-cross rider and road teammate, Puck Pieterse, through the Ardennes. Alvarado hopes to use the three races to build her form and improve her leg speed ahead of the Vuelta, where she’ll also make her debut. She raced the Giro d’Italia last year.
