Hi Subscribers,

We’ve had a lot of racing this week with the juniors, under-23s, and elites all in action at the European Championships in France.

The event culminates this weekend with the men’s and women’s road races, but one constant theme throughout the championships - at least for me - has been the buzz of transfers and last-minute deals being discussed.

There’s a lot to run through today, from the almost-complete roster for the Modern Adventure Pro Cycling team to updates on several other rosters, including Ineos (and their U23 team), Isaac del Toro extension talks, Team GRENKE - Auto Eder’s roster signings for 2026, Derek Gee’s UCI case with IPT, Viviani news, and much more.

First, we’ll start with a directeur sportif move, as news filters through that Andrew Smith is moving on from Jayco AlUla after accepting a role at the UCI. We’re still waiting on the Australian team to confirm their management structure for next season. Smith has been with Jayco since 2019, when he served as a DS on the Mitchelton-BikeExchange Continental team.

A couple of notes on retirements: Elia Viviani is likely to hang up his road wheels at the end of 2025. The 36-year-old was a late signing for Lotto this year, and to be fair, he’s raced well, winning a couple of races, finishing the Vuelta a España, and bringing down the curtain on what’s truly been a stellar and very underrated career. On the road, alone, he’s won 90 races. It’s likely he’ll compete in the UCI Track World Championships in Santiago, Chile, later this month, and maybe do a bit more track racing even into the new year, but his time on the road scene is probably coming to an end. According to a source, retirement is 90% set in stone.
