Discovering diamonds in the rough with Fensham Howes
The British junior squad have produced countless talents including Tom Pidcock, Ben Wiggins and Max Poole
As far as junior domestic teams go you’d be hard-pushed to find an alumni as star-studded as the one at Fensham Howes.
The UK junior team wrapped up their season at La Philippe Gilbert juniors race in Belgium last weekend and have produced top-tier talent for almost a decade. Their roll of honour includes Tom Pidcock, Max Poole, Fin Pickering, Sam Watson, Matthew Brennan, Ben Wiggins, Lukas Nerurkar, Jed Smithson, Elliot Rowe, Joseph Pidcock, and Sebastian Grindley, with the latter recently winning a silver medal at Worlds before heading to Lidl-Trek Future Racing in 2025.
Seven past and present Fensham Howes riders were selected for Great Britain at the Worlds this year so if a British WorldTour team were looking for a ready-made development squad they might want to turn their attention this way.
The team was set up by Neil Hendry in 2016 under the banner of VCUK PH-Mas Cycling Team. Tom Pidcock was on the inaugural roster back then and when Hendry moved aside to run other projects Pidcock’s father Giles decided to step up to the plate and run the show in 2019.
