Fred Wright: There's no better feeling than when you're on the front end of the Classics 🇬🇧
British star talks about moving on from 2024, working with a psychologist, and his love of Belgian races
By his own admission, Fred Wright had a difficult season in 2024.
A versatile all-rounder capable of winning one-day races or hunting stages, the campaign never really clicked for the 25-year-old. However, after a reset and some blistering early-season form, the 25-year-old is raring to go ahead of Opening Weekend.
The Bahrain Victorious rider is set to compete in Omloop Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, partnering with former Milan-San Remo winner and teammate Matej Mohorič. The duo showcased their skills at the recent Tour de la Provence, where Mohorič secured second place overall, while Wright finished two spots behind him in the general classification. As season openers go, it was a giant leap forward for Wright after 2024.
“I’d say that the season has started well. I wanted to come in pretty hot and in Provence I was pleased with where the legs were. It was nice to race the second stage, how Matej and I did, a bit like how we want to race the Classics as well. I’m delighted with it. It was a nice confidence boost to go from where things didn’t click into place to where the training and work I’d put into practice over the winter had paid off,” Wright told us on the eve of Omloop.
