I once calculated the number of hours of live racing we showed on GCN+ in a year: 1,502.
At the time, people were employed whose primary purpose was watching live cycling. Even those people who were being paid to do it couldn’t possibly have watched all of it.
More live cycling than you could fit into your eyes for £40 a year. There were also windows of opportunity when deals were available for £20 a year, all on a platform which was focused completely on cycling.
It felt too good to be true at the time. Ultimately, it was. When GCN+ closed down in late 2023, cycling fans in the UK & Ireland had to sign up for Discovery+ instead. It had more or less all of the same races although now you also had to navigate your way past Vinny Jones, Jeremy Clarkson and Jacob Rees-Mogg. And it was more like £100 a year.
