Ineos Grenadiers left 'deflated' by Tom Pidcock's shock deselection
The rider was told he wasn't racing Il Lombardia while on the bus with his teammates
With radio silence from the upper echelons of the Ineos Grendaries management structure, it was left to the poor souls on the ground at Il Lombardia to face the music following Tom Pidcock’s shock deselection at Il Lombardia.
Zak Dempster admitted to CN that the decision was out of his hands and not based on performance, adding that “it does look strange”.
This morning we spoke to a source close to the team who stated that morale took a huge hit at the race once news broke of Pidcock’s deselection. The rider was informed of the decision on Thursday evening after finishing 15th in Gran Piemonte and being the first Ineos Grenadiers rider home.
According to sources, the decision came from the very top at Ineos and Pidcock was told of his deselection while on the Ineos Grenadiers team bus and travelling to the team’s Il Lombardia hotel.
