Introducing Lucas Jackson 🇬🇧
Born in France, raised in Mallorca and racing with a British licence, meet the Movistar Team Academy talent in his home race
British riders on Movistar have always been relatively rare and distinctive. Jeremy Hunt was among the first in the 1990s during the team’s Banesto days, and the only other male riders that come to mind are Alex Dowsett and Gabriel Cullaigh. On the women’s side, former junior world champion Cat Ferguson is currently flying the flag alongside Claire Steels and Carys Lloyd, but throughout the Spanish team’s long and colourful history, British stars have been few and far between.
So when Movistar launched their inaugural men’s U23 team at the start of 2026, and a relatively unknown young British rider named Lucas Jackson made the roster, it was worth tracking him down for an interview.

Born in France, raised in Mallorca but with a hint of a Sheffield twang to his accent, the 18-year-old is currently taking part in Challenge Mallorca, racing on home roads after a call-up from the WorldTour team. His first outing of the season ended with a crash and an unfortunate DNF in the Trofeo Calvià, but all being well, he’ll be back to race one of the final events of the series before shifting his focus to a more U23-heavy calendar later in the year.

If you haven’t heard much about Jackson, that’s okay. He hasn’t raced in the UK yet and only started taking the sport seriously in 2024, while on a junior team in Spain. By his own admission, he wasn’t great at the beginning of his racing tenure, experiencing hunger flats in his first races and needing time to learn his race craft. However, towards the end of that year, and into 2025, the young rider began to find his feet.
