Matthew Riccitello targeting GC at Vuelta a España
'I’m still young and I definitely have a lot to learn but at the same time I think the Vuelta this year, with so many hard days, is a great chance for me' says American climber
Matthew Riccitello (Israel-Premier Tech) is aiming for the overall standing in just the second Grand Tour of his career as he heads to Lisbon, Portugal for the start of the Vuelta a España.
The 22-year-old made his three-week debut at the Giro d’Italia in 2023 and with another year of racing under his belt, Riccitello believes that he’s ready to mount a challenge for the top-ten or even top-five in the final Grand Tour of the season.
“I’m feeling really good. I was in Andorra on top of a mountain for a month and that was good training. I’ve been back in Nice for a few days and now I’m just looking forward to getting to the Vuelta,” Riccitello told us over the phone before leaving for Portugal.
