Movistar set to extend contracts with Quintana and Gaviria
Van Gils and Castrillo linked to the team alongside Tesfatsion
Movistar have been relatively quiet on the transfer market so far this year with only the Venezuelan national time trial champion Orluis Aular announced as part of their 2025 additions.
However, the men’s team are set to reward two mainstays on the squad with new contracts, with Nairo Quintana and Fernando Gaviria close to agreeing new terms.
While several high-profile riders have departed, with Alex Aranburu moving to Cofidis, and Oier Lazkano joining the revamped Classics arm of Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe, Movistar kept a relatively low profile.
That said, several riders have been linked to the team, including Vuelta a España breakout star, Pablo Castrillo. According to the rider’s agent, Movistar is currently leading the race for the rider’s signature ahead of Astana and a fading Ineos Grenadiers. The 23-year-old won two stages in the Vuelta and is looking for a three-year WorldTour deal in a bid to capitalise on his newfound profile.
