The new U23 World champion is a rider in demand but roster space is an issue at Lidl-Trek
Niklas Behrens stormed to an impressive win in Friday’s U23 men’s road race at the UCI Road World Championships, becoming the first German to win the event in almost 20 years, and cementing his place as one of the best young riders in the world.
However, almost as soon as the 20-year-old crossed the line speculation began to mount with the rider at the centre of a transfer story with two competing narratives vying for his future.
Behrens has been with the Lidl-Trek Future Racing team all season and has had a hugely successful campaign, winning several times and taking second in the road race at the recent European Championships.
