Day one of the Tour de France and the start in Lille was teeming with rider agents, team bosses, and sponsors.

I’ll have a major transfer news round-up later today or first thing in the morning, but one narrative that will persist throughout the summer will be the future of Remco Evenepoel.

The Belgian rider has a contract until the end of 2026 with Soudal Quick-Step, but that hasn’t stopped speculation linking him with Ineos Grenadiers and Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe over a transfer in 2027 or a contract break at the end of the current season.

Information about the Belgian’s intentions remains unclear, with some sources insisting that he will only sit down and consider his future at the end of the Tour de France, while others have suggested that personal terms may already have been settled and that ‘only’ the matter of compensation with Soudal Quick-Step needs to be resolved.

At the start in Lille, I spoke with Ralph Denk, team boss of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, to discuss the situation, the team’s GC goals for the Tour with Primož Roglič, and the season so far at Red Bull, as well as their U23 and junior programmes.

“I’m excited, and we’re looking forward to it. The preparation went well. It’s the biggest bike race and it’s about to start,” Denk said before being asked about Roglič’s changes.
