Salvatore Puccio: I want to finish my career at Ineos Grenadiers 🇮🇹
The Italian is aiming for Giro d'Italia selection, in what could be his final season
He has been with the team since his stagiaire days in 2011, and Salvatore Puccio cannot envision riding for any other team before he eventually hangs up his wheels.
The 35-year-old veteran is out of contract at the end of the season but hasn’t decided on his long-term future, with his concentration on gaining selection for the Giro d’Italia in May and making up for a disappointing season in 2024.
The Italian has been part of three Team Sky/Ineos Grenadiers teams that have won the Giro d’Italia - helping Chris Froome (2018), Tao Geoghegan Hart (2020) and Egan Bernal (2021) to victory. Although he’s never been selected for the Tour de France, Puccio is one of the longest serving riders on the team next to Geraint Thomas and Ben Swift, and has forged a career as a reliable domestique and road captain.
His last outing for the team was at the Volta ao Algarve, where he helped Laurens De Plus make the podium. Next is a block of races in Italy and Spain.
“Next will be Strade Bianche and Tirreno-Adriatico, and then I’m on the list for Milan-San Remo and Coppi e Bartali for now. Next would be Itzulia Basque Country and then it depends if I’m riding the Giro. I could go straight to the Giro, but otherwise I’m doing Romandie.” Puccio recently told us.
