After months of speculation and transfer rumours, we can verify that Sam Welsford is set to sign a contract with Ineos Grenadiers in 2026.

The Australian, who currently races for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, had previously been heavily linked with a transfer to Jayco AlUla for next season. However, Ineos Grenadiers emerged as the favourites to secure the rider last week, overtaking Jayco in the contest for the rider’s signature.

Official confirmation on the transfer cannot be announced until August 1, but we understand that the two-year offer is on the table and will be signed imminently.

At this stage, it’s unlikely that Welsford will bring any lead-out riders with him from Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, but Ineos Grenadiers already have a decent sprint train within their ranks. If the team change direction on possible support riders for Welsford, they have around five or six spaces to fill on the transfer front, so an additional lead-out rider could be picked up in the second half of the year.
