Stefan Küng: I’m not looking for a retirement contract 👑
The Groupama-FDJ rider is happy on the French team but willing to ‘see what’s out there’ as he builds towards the Classics
Two years ago, Stefan Kung was on the brink of joining dsm-firmenich, and there was also significant interest from UAE Team Emirates in acquiring the Swiss powerhouse.
Ultimately, Küng chose to extend his contract with Marc Madiot’s French team, yet in what seems like the blink of an eye, the rider is once again available on the market and stands as one of the most compelling transfer prospects ahead of 2026.
Now 31, Küng has established himself as one of the most consistent riders in the world, a Grand Tour stage winner, and a solid Classics specialist.
While a significant one-day win may still be absent from his already impressive palmarès, which includes 30 victories, almost every team in the men’s WorldTour would be enhanced by having Küng on board.
Groupama’s rivals will be highly interested during the spring campaign, but the rider himself is incredibly calm about the situation. At the start of stage 3 at the Volta ao Algarve, we spoke with Küng about the Classics and, of course, his contract situation.
“The talks always start early in the year and you try and see where your journey could be heading or if it might continue where it is. We’ll see what there is on offers and where I continue,” he said.
