Tom Pidcock 'unlikely' to race 'cross before January as his coach skips Ineos camp
'It’s a complex matter but let's keep it calm' says Kurt Bogaerts
Tom Pidcock’s long-term coach Kurt Bogaerts confirmed three snippets of information when we called him on Thursday morning. In order of importance, we learned the following:
Tom Pidcock is unlikely to race cyclo-cross before January ❌
Bogaerts has also skipped the Ineos Grenadiers training camp ✈️
It’s raining in Belgium ☔
Outside of that, Bogaerts - who is in Belgium right now - was unwilling to shed any light on the details behind the rider’s departure from Ineos Grenadiers following our breaking news story that confirmed Pidcock and Ineos had split. Pidcock had three years remaining on his contract with the British team.
Bogaerts has been Pidcock’s coach for several years and moved full-time to Ineos Grenadiers within a season of the rider’s arrival in 2021.
The coaching mastermind behind Pidcock’s double Olympic wins, along with Pauline Ferrand-Prévot’s gold in Paris this summer, Bogaerts is still responsible for several other riders in the British team. However, the revelation that he is not currently at the team’s camp in Denia, Spain is telling. Pidcock also skipped the start of the camp before his contract news was made official.
