Alan Hatherly had an impressive debut at the AlUla Tour. Photo courtesy of Jayco AlUla and Sprint Cycling.

Hi everyone,

Here’s my final story of the day. I will have a Bahrain Victorious transfer/sponsor story tomorrow, though, so stay tuned. 🇧🇭

My Substack is also now on Instagram. So if you want to watch a middle-aged man feebly scramble around with images, captions and hashtags, come this way. #prayforme

Have a great weekend 🫶

Daniel

Alan Hatherly kicked started his WorldTour road racing career with a highly creditable sixth place in the AlUla Tour.

Had it not been for an untimely puncture on the final stage, the South African would have likely picked up a podium place, and his impressive start to the season has those within Jayco AlUla wondering if the South African could be a factor in Strade Bianche and La Flèche Wallonne.

It’s, of course, early days, but the next few weeks will see the mountain bike world champion test his mettle in a series of week-long stage races. His team have confirmed that the 28-year-old will race the Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista Del Sol and Coppi e Bartali, along with pitstops at Strade Bianche and Trofeo Laigueglia, before the Basque Country and then a tilt at the Ardennes.

“He deserved to be on the podium in AlUla,” Director of High Performance and Racing Matt White told us on Friday - the same day that Hatherly returned from South Africa, where he recently won the national TT title.
