Ineos Grenadiers had weeks to prepare for this moment, and when it came to their first proper public address following Tom Pidock’s departure, the response was just as you might expect.
Short and sweet but sadly lacking in all the juicy details that the fans and media wanted to hear about. And while Pidcock’s break-up with the British team will remain a constant narrative for months to come, the words emanating from his former team were of a peaceful and friendly tone.
It was a far cry from where things were last autumn, when Pidcock was suddenly benched from racing at Il Lombardi or when he publicly talked about how difficult his season had been in Ineos after the Paris Olympics.
“I think that the whole Tom topic might be one for a book in ten years but in terms of newsworthiness, we’re certainly moving on,” said CEO John Allert.
