Kuss to support Vingegaard and Yates at Volta Ciclista a Catalunya 🇺🇸
American uses Algarve to build form slowly as he targets super domestique role for the majority of 2025
Sepp Kuss will take a break from racing and focus on training before his next outing at the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. The American made his 2025 stage racing debut at the Volta ao Algarve last month, and although teammate Jonas Vingegaard won the race, Kuss wasn’t at his best, suffering on the all-important Alto da Foia stage and finishing 38th overall.
The former Vuelta a España winner was undeterred by that performance, explaining that he often requires time to develop his form in preparation for the more significant goals of the season.
“It’s been a good week. This is a good race to start with after a long winter and the off-season. At every stage, you get used to the rhythm, which helps you get used to riding in the bunch. From my side it was good in that regard. I already had an idea on where I’d be, and I felt good in training but it’s always different in racing. It usually takes me a while to get into the swing of things, but I have no illusions of going for a result or whatever. It’s just about getting into the rhythm, it’s been good for that, I’ve felt better every day,” he said post-Algarve.

Visma found themselves on the back foot in stage 2 of the Alto da Foia summit, with UAE Team Emirates securing first and second places through Jan Christen and João Almeida. The climbs during that day of racing exposed Visma-Lease a Bike, as several key domestiques were missing on the final ascent to the finish line. Vingegaard managed to limit his losses and ultimately claimed the GC win thanks to a commanding performance in the final-day time trial, but Kuss admitted that he wasn’t yet at his peak.
