At this point in the 2024 racing season, the UAE Team Emirates, as it was known then, boasted 10 victories. They were already on track for a record-setting season, with Marc Hirschi, Juan Ayuso, and Jay Vine all contributing with wins.

In terms of the racing calendar, rather than specific dates, Tadej Pogačar hadn’t even pushed a pedal in anger at that time. We all know what happened next: the Slovenian won almost everything he started throughout the year and the team eventually finished the season with an astonishing 81 victories. Just imagine if they had a pure, pure sprinter in their ranks.

This year, UAE Team Emirates-XRG are even more dominant than they were twelve months ago, boasting 14 wins already and showing no signs of slowing down. Pogačar is heading back to one of his preferred stomping grounds at Strade Bianche this weekend, and Ayuso, Jhonatan Narváez, Jan Christen, Pavel Sivakov, Adam Yates, and António Morgado have all already raised their hands in the air.

To put their success in context, Soudal Quick-Step, the second most successful team in the men’s peloton this season - in terms of the number of victories - have half the number of Pogačar’s posse, with seven, while Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe and Lidl-Trek each have six.
