🌈 War of the Worlds: Latvia calls out UCI for not disqualifying Mathieu van der Poel
'It seems that some are more equal than others' says the president of the Latvian Cycling Federation after Dutch rider 'endangered spectators'
The Latvian Cycling Federation has written an open letter to the UCI asking the sport’s governing body why they did not apply their rules fairly after Mathieu van der Poel escaped punishment for riding on the pavement during the UCI Road World Championships.
The national federation has also suggested that Mathieu van der Poel was not sanctioned because of his profile.
Van der Poel finished third in the elite men’s road race last Sunday, coincidently one place higher than Latvian rider Toms Skujiņš.
Tadej Pogačar (Slovenia) comprehensively won the race but the fight for the remaining medals came down to a battle on the final lap.
