Continuing a new series of features titled ‘Next Rider Up’ we caught up with Ineos Grenadiers’ latest signing, Artem Shmidt.

The ‘Next Rider Up’ features focus on young and exciting talent that’s come through the ranks in Europe and the US and is on the cusp of turning pro.

The 20-year-old American is a U23 national time trial champion and is tipped for the very top of the sport after coming through the Hot Tubes and Hagens Berman Jayco programmes.

After spending time at Ineos’ training camp in the winter of 2023, and turning down interest from other WorldTour teams, Shmidt has signed a two-year contract with the British squad and becomes their third American on the roster after fellow Hot Tubes alumni, AJ August and Magnus Sheffield.

Shmidt, who comes from a cycling family, will stagiaire for Ineos Grenadiers later in the year, and he’s currently competing for the USA team at the Tour de L’Avenir.

Last week we spoke to his USA teammate Colby Simmons, who is also racing at the Tour de L’Avenir, and you can find that exclusive interview right here.
