Tadej Pogačar portrays a likeable side of cycling cannibalism but should he share the scraps?

Five mountain stage wins, the maillot jaune to add to a maglia rosa, and absolutely no margin for gifts in this year’s Tour de France - Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) has been unstoppable and uncompromising dreadnought in this year’s race and on stage 20 the Slovenian once more put his rivals to the sword with another victorious display.

Remco Evenepoel has impressed but he's at a Tour de France crossroads

At the start of the Tour de France in Florence the communication broadcasting from the Soudal Quick-Step camp was that a top-five overall was the ballpark aim for Remco Evenepoel. The Belgian won a Vuelta a España a couple of years ago and had shown glimpses of greatness at two consecutive Grand Tours since but this challenge was to represent an upgrade in difficulty, and with Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogačar and Primož Roglič all lining up with more experience, it made sense for the Belgian camp to lower expectations around their star ahead of his maiden Tour mission.

Tadej Pogačar's camp mindful that one bad day can change the Tour de France

He’s looked imperious so far, winning three stages and dominating the overall standings with a 3:09 lead over his nearest rival but Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) and his camp are refusing to allow complacency to creep in as they close in on a third

Vingegaard clings to past Tour de France glory in the face of almighty Pogačar

What a difference a week has made at the Tour de France. Last Monday, on the first rest day, the art of mind games and tactical bluffs dominated the press conferences of the big four as they jostled for advantages and looked to offload pressure onto one another.

What does abandoning the Tour de France mean for Primož Roglič, his team, and the race?

Another crash, another Tour de France departure for Primož Roglič, and perhaps the final nail in the coffin for his dream of winning the only Grand Tour missing from his glorious palmares. On the start line in Agen on Friday morning a deflated Rolf Aldag addressed the assembled media to affirm the news that was already out there - that after consecutive crashes on stages 11 and 12 - and heavy time losses - Roglič would be leaving the race owing to the injuries he sustained.

Tom Southam: We’ve got the right guys to win a stage

They’ve worn the yellow jersey for a day through Richard Carapaz, and animated the race at almost every turn through exciting and aggressive tactics, but EF Education-EasyPost won’t be truly happy until they’ve taken a stage win in this year’s Tour de France

Benson Bulletin: Tour de France stage 11

Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) showed why he’s still the rider to beat in this year’s Tour de France with a consummate victory on stage 11 of the Tour de France. The defending champion was forced to respond after yellow jersey Tadej Pogačar attacked with over 31km to go on the road from Évaux-les-Bains to Le Lioran in the Massif Central and not only caught his main rival, but beat him in a two-up sprint.

Stick or twist: How close are Ineos Grenadiers to winning the Tour de France?

Ineos Grenadiers haven’t won a Tour de France title since 2019, and barring a major shock, the drought shows no sign of ending this year. The British team dominated the Tour between 2012 and 2019, winning seven editions with four separate riders. But despite reaching the podium twice since their last victory, the squad has struggled to mount a genuine tilt for the yellow jersey.

Mark Cavendish - from practising his victory celebrations in the mirror to becoming the greatest sprinter of all time

Mark Cavendish made history on stage 5 of the Tour de France, becoming the most successful ever stage winner in the race’s history, and surpassing Eddy Merckx with a 35th career victory in the race. At the finish in Saint Vulbas, the British sprinter was mobbed, not just by his celebrating teammates, but by his rivals, and the media, as he wrote his name further into the history books. It was a win that many thought would never happen, at 39 years of age, and in his final Tour de France, but this was a fitting milestone for a rider who has dominated sprinting for the last 15 years and come back from several major setbacks.

Simon Yates might be leaving Jayco AlUla but he's a winner who won't waste Tour de France opportunities

We’ve seen it countless times before in sport. When an athlete knows they’re heading for the exit door at a team or organisation, and all of a sudden their head drops, concentration wanes, and their hunger evaporates in the blink of an eye. That won’t be the case this sum…
